I found two great resources that were very informative and related to cultural awareness as well as health professions.

Shaya, Fadia T., and Confidence M. Gbarayor. "The Case for Cultural Competence in Health Professions Education." American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 15 Dec. 2006. Web. 03 Apr. 2017.

This first resource explains how it is necessary for cultural competence to be taught in health professional curriculums. This resource stated how it is necessary to look at the true health issues among different racial and cultural groups. The journal reviews how demographics are changing in our country and there are groups of people with different backgrounds that health professionals must be conscious of. As stated, it is very important as populations of different races grow, we must learn to improve the health of these groups. I want to enter the field of recreational therapy. I feel this resource can help me better understand my future clients with different backgrounds than my own. I think this resource has a lot to offer in terms of becoming more aware of our countries growing diverse population. This source is reliable, because it has a .gov at the end of the original web address. When you see this you know it is reliable. This is a journal from an online database from a national library of medicine.

Bacote, J. "Many Faces: Addressing Diversity in Health Care." Many Faces: Addressing Diversity in Health Care. N.p., n.d. Web. 02 Apr. 2017.

The second resource I found was through an online journal for nurses. This journal reviewed what diversity is and what it means in our country. The resource also reviews cultural competence and how a healthcare professional should become culturally competent and why. The resource provides a link for CLAS standards which is also helpful, to be able to address where our healthcare stands with diverse groups in our country. There are many other links such as this one to help educate further beyond just this journal. The journal continues to education on different topics such as cultural knowledge and how to seek and obtain information that would be helpful. I feel this resource would be great for the profession I want to pursue. Although it is for nurses, I feel it would again help me better understand my future clients. This would help me better my communication skills with other people from different backgrounds and ultimately help me help others successfully. This resource is reliable because it has a .org on the end of the original address. This represents it is valid and reliable.
