Driving down the road on a beautiful pre-Autumn day, the large red sign catches my eye. "Estate Sale 50% Off"…. I am torn, yet curiosity draws my car to the curb. As an avid garage sale seeker, I often enjoy the victory of the bargains I find while rummaging through items no longer wanted by the owner. But the items of my garage sale victories are most often found outside on the hard cement driveway or garage…unattached to story, emotion or the life that shared its journey.
This Autumn day I find myself entering the E ...continued...

The first principal standard of the CLAS standards states one will provide effective and respectful care that is quality. Diverse cultural health beliefs and the language necessary will be used for communication needs. Standards for cultural competence for occupational therapist are very similar. I found principal standard that speaks to effective communication skills, listening carefully and language –oriented with recruiting translators. These two statements are similar to me, because they are providing a statement that says they will offer quali ...continued...

Hello, I am Austin. I am currently enrolled as a Biology student at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. This story will follow me through out the coursework of Client Diversity in Health Science, which is part of my required social sciences/cultural diversity core competencey classes. I've always taken a liking to natural sciences, more specifically health science. I began my journey as a Biomedical Sciences (medical technology) student back in 2011 where I began to fall out of line with the concepts that were being taught to me. I took a few years off and am now back studying Bi ...continued...

We lived across the street from St Rita's Church and upstairs of Sophie's Hat Shop. Sophie was a very proper Lady who made custom tailored hats for discriminating, dapper gentlemen, like my Dad. She also owned the building and was thrilled to rent to us as local business people.
Bonnie Thomas and her Mom lived next door on the same level as we did. Downstairs was Sophie's shop and living space.
Everything felt very rich and fancy.
Thick carpet on the heavy polished wooden stairs. Fancy wallpaper. Thick pretty carpet through the living room. Sw ...continued...

I set about to clean out Mother’s house. In the spare bedroom, I opened the antique cabinet and drew out a stack of memorabilia. Halfway down the pile of old newspapers, I discovered a speckled brown ledger book with ragged edges. It crackled as I opened the yellowed pages. Each line contained a date and a comment on life in the 1880's. It was my great-grandfather Sanford’s diary.
The more I read, the more I wanted to share Sanford’s story, rather than bury it in some safe place for another 119 years.
The basic story line is true and the hi ...continued...

The way I see it is if I am so unhappy with how I look on the outside then I need to seriously buckle down and deal with it, only I am so addicted to the chips and the pop that I feel it is my crutch. I end up at the store buying things I dont need without even giving The big blow out! Mom entered my room, I can only imagine after grilling my sibling about her weight, spending habits and other things. She was on the war path and it just so happened that I was the nect victim. I heard a knock which lead to her helping herself into my room as though she owned it. To be honest, she pays the ...continued...
My favorite Mark Twain quote: I've lived through some terrible things in my life and some of them actually happened. I start every Life History and Lewis and Clark workshop with this one. http://ozarkstories.com
Be happy to the success of others. Know that there is enough for everyone. Jealousy, Envy, Cynicism, Fear, Selfishness, and Hatred will surely tear you down. Reread the chapter on Thoughts to ensure that you understand how the subconscious delivers.
Laugh at yourself and the World laughs with you. Laugh at others and the World laughs at y ...continued...

Climate change is real. It is the most urgent threat affecting our species. We need to work together and stop procrastinating.

Indians and wolves are both beasts of prey, though they differ in shape.
To the Great Plains Indians, nature was the center of our way of life. To whites, nature was the enemy to be conquered.

It ultimately matters a hell of a lot, regardless of whether or not you live in Fe ...continued...

Presented @ a KC Writers Group Reader Function
I enrolled in a comedy writing class at UMKC in Kansas City a couple of years ago and this is a version of my script that was broadcast on a local radio station. Writing comedy is a difficult venue. I say that in case you don’t think what have composed is funny.

~As he made his way down Columbus Avenue in the city of Middleton,
Dr. Jameson was sure she was following him, hiding in the shadows,
waiting patiently before making her move.
The restaurant, his destination, wasn’t much further. Dr. Jameson
wondered if maybe he should have phoned for that taxi, but it was a
warm September evening and the walk would do him good. He could
turn back; he was only a block from home, but he pressed on despite
his uneasy feeling.
The disturbing quiet of a usually busy city rattled him. It was as
though he was the last survivor on the planet. A noise s ...continued...

This question was often asked of me while I attempted to get my first “serious” job. It was a difficult, philosophical question to answer. Looking back on those times, I wonder if the enquirer had asked it because he could not remember why he himself had chosen to become an accountant. Nearing retirement, the job interviewer hoped that this young, fresh-faced interviewee might retrospectively give meaning and justification to the previous thirty years of his working life. Unfortunately, there was no blinding flash of wisdom from the mouth of this babe accountant.

Morning thoughts are very important because it establishes our attitudes for the day. What do you think about when you first wake up. Are you irritated? Are you unmotivated? Do you hit the snooze over and over. Remember, the top don’t act like this. Neither do you. Nothing changes overnight, and for that matter over a week. Commit to the following exercise. What do you have to loose? The majority of people are not doing mental programming. The majority of people are not successful. As (??) said &ldquo ...continued...
The title of my life story is "I Started Out As A Small Boy". Most readers will wonder "What is up with this dude choosing a stupid title such as this?" Well, I have to admit that it is hardly a unique beginning. I suspect that of the approximate 7 billion people people inhabiting planet earth at this moment, about 3.5 billion of them may have started out the same way.
But then again, every story must start somewhere and I am convinced that mine started on April 29, 1937 in the Larned Kansas "Hospital". I put Hospital in qu ...continued...
