Mom was my best friend and though I feel her presence around me often, it is always strongest during Mother’s Day.
Two years ago I was in a very dark place, overwhelmed with the chaos in my life I decided it was time to work on my office at home, trying to find and create order. As I opened a file drawer to clean it out, inside was an old blue folder with papers inside. Keep or throw I wondered as I opened the folder. Inside was a copy of the Constitution of the United States, the one mom helped me memorize in 8th grade. Next was the award for a reading group I had been in as a child,, “The most hours of reading award!” And finally a certificate for babysitting that I earned when I was 13. I put them back in the old folder and turned it over to put it in the trash . Just then I saw my mothers handwriting on the back of the folder. In very big letters it said, “IMPORTANT” I started crying, thinking of these three little pieces of paper and how important they were to my mother, pieces of my life. Immediately under the blue folder was a book titled, “50 Ways to Pamper Yourself”. Always with me reminding me to take the high road! Thanks Mom!
