Orcs hate Elves with a passion. (from Lord of the Rings by J. R.R. Tolkien) “Home home on the range, where the deer and the antelope play” According to the Center for Biological Diversity, Wildlife Services, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has killed, through gassing, poisoning and strangulation by snare, 27 million native animals since 1996, including more than 1 million in 2014. The animals have included prairie dogs, gray wolves, mountain lions, black bears, foxes, coyotes and even bald eagles, and possibly a few domestic cats. ...continued...

Chapter One
Monday, October 27, 2014 to Thursday, November 06, 2014
-
Prologue: She could’ve asked him what he was doing. Where he was going. But she wasn’t stupid. Through glazed eyes, she watched from the doorway while Aaron tossed clothes into the open suitcase in the middle of the sagging bed. His face was hard, his jaw set. Though an icy silence hung between them, Mandi sensed that hot rage simmered just below the surface. And that it could erupt her direction at any moment. But he didn’t look at her, didn’t speak to her. Why should he? What was there to say? There’d been ...continued...

Idioms
Friday, October 31, 2014 to Monday, November 10, 2014
-
What in Sam Hill? We all know what it means, but where did the saying originate? Idioms, to make a long story short, are actually sensible nonsense, yet hit the nail on the head in a New York minute. We know what these phrases mean; we all use them. But where do these funny and nonsensical statements come from? Since when can you know the ropes, knock on wood, wag the dog, hold your horses, or go the whole nine yards and still know that you didn’t bite off more than you could chew. In my story, An Abduction Revelation, I used many idioms that we use in our every day conversations. ...continued...

Learning Goals

After review of the course syllabus, learning goals, and the results of my self-assessment, my learning goals for the rest of this course are: 1. To gain more knowledge about numerous cultural beliefs, practices, attitudes, and ways of communicating as to better understand how this effects people’s view on medicine so I can become more aware of how to best serve patients of all different cultures in my future. 2. To understand my own cultural experiences and how these influence biases that I possess and work to overcome these biases to become a more culturally competent ...continued...

Hello, I am Austin. I am currently enrolled as a Biology student at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. This story will follow me through out the coursework of Client Diversity in Health Science, which is part of my required social sciences/cultural diversity core competencey classes. I've always taken a liking to natural sciences, more specifically health science. I began my journey as a Biomedical Sciences (medical technology) student back in 2011 where I began to fall out of line with the concepts that were being taught to me. I took a few years off and am now back studying Bi ...continued...

The Haunting of Leigh Maxwell By Esther Luttrell ONE The wind was starting to kick up, he noticed. Even though the old car provided a cocoon, protecting him from the elements, he was aware of the dip in temperature. It was colder than usual for so early in October. Trees surrounding the big plant where he worked were bending in the breeze, disappearing from sight when shreds of fog shifted across the woods. He hunched down further in the seat, pulling his wool jacket tighter around him. “She’s going to be late,” he said aloud to ...continued...

Question: “To what extent do my beliefs, prejudices or biases influence my thinking in terms of providing service in my profession or work?” I would say that my beliefs, prejudices, or biases have no influence in providing services in my work. I work in a hospital as a imaging assistant so, i see a lot of diversity and different beliefs. No matter what i will always give good quality care to patients, just like anyone deserves. Some examples from the quiz are: Question 10: if a family member speaks English as well as the patient&rsq ...continued...

Affirmations
Thursday, December 28, 1989
-
Affirmations Morning thoughts are very important because it establishes our attitudes for the day. What do you think about when you first wake up. Are you irritated? Are you unmotivated? Do you hit the snooze over and over. Remember, the top don’t act like this. Neither do you. Nothing changes overnight, and for that matter over a week. Commit to the following exercise. What do you have to loose? The majority of people are not doing mental programming. The majority of people are not successful. As (??) said &ldquo ...continued...

Walk The Past Years And Years To Come...
Wednesday, June 17, 1970 to Wednesday, December 17, 1980

I always think about my past, and what my past brought me that woud trap me up inside, surround and remind me of fear, disappointments, and hopelessness. Once it would help me with struggles so many things I done. Like the song said to me, “There’s always tomorrow..,” but the past was monopolizing my present today. So what do I do with all that baggage inside of me? How did I sort it all out? I know that my troubles and lack of resolution with my past affects important relationships. The peopl ...continued...

Slice of Memory
Friday, August 16, 2013
-
I have commitment and relationship problems because when I was little my parents would make fun of me for liking boys and say I was too young to like anyone. As I grew older the thoughts scarred my mind and now at 20 I have yet to have a boyfriend. My sister has a boyfriend of 2 years and every time I talk to a guy my parents tell me its a waste of time and that I don't need anyone... Now I'm stuck telling myself that. I don't even know what "love" feels like, or what being a girlfriend is like. I am just the lone runner trying to reach the goals of a champion, and ...continued...
